The library wants both The Graveyard Book and Charles and Emma back and I didn't finish them. I thought those books would take over my world until I could not put them down. I'm sorry to report they did not. It may be my fault. Some switch in my brain turned off and now my brain has gone to work on something backstage. I can't wait until it reveals itself.
Literally I. can't. wait.
As Always (and I sort of wanted to do the period after each word thing),

I hate when that happens! I always wonder if it was me to why I couldn't finish, or even begin the books I'd waited to read!
ReplyDeleteLove the period after each word... lol
I'm doing CHARLES AND EMMA in April. I'm curious, when did you leave off in GRAVEYARD? You may remember, it's near the top of my all-time faves list, but I'll admit at times, I questioned what kept me reading. In the end, all doubts washed away and I felt very satisfied. What other books have you abandoned and were the circumstances the same? Also, don't blame the library, sometimes fines are so worth it.
ReplyDeleteOh, I looooved Graveyard Book! I've never read the other.
ReplyDeleteYou can always go back and check them out another time. At least the Graveyard Book is a must to retry again!!
Jen- I agree, reading is sometimes so mood related! And the full stops (because it's fun to write like a Brit too) never tried them before, worried about becoming addicted!
ReplyDeleteJon-I wasn't necessarily done, the Library called it back. Waiting list you know. I was reading it out loud to my son and the prose just rolled off my lips, so smooth and easy. I loved it. But yet we never caught the bug. That's why I said it may have been me. Tell me what you think of Charles and Emma. I so wanted to add those to my list!
Kelly- see above. To you I will promise a retry. I promise!
I just always have a huge library fine (I never keep books if other people are trying to get them, though), and then the libray cuts me off until I pay...usually Husband pays when he notices, because he gets embarrassed. But think about the service I give, advertising the books and all. Right? RIGHT?
ReplyDeleteI am soooo guilty of not paying attention to the due dates. But I think of fines like donating to the library. And I never check out things on a waiting list- there are plenty of other things to read in the meantime.
ReplyDeleteI liked Graveyard, but I didn't love it. The antagonist reminded me too much of the evil guys from Neverwhere.
T - Interlibrary loan, it's specifically designed for people like you.
ReplyDeleteKelly - Thank you! *Someone in background yells AMEN*
Anita - Right!
Lilly - I loved the antagonist...I felt it was all so clever.
ReplyDeleteMake sure you get them back on time...I decided it's cheaper for me to go to book stores than the library. I had a $28 fine last month! I thought I renewed my books on line...it turned out that I only renewed one of them!
ReplyDeleteAnita, You ARE right. And there were folks waiting for both the Graveyard book and Charles and Emma. My fine is low right now because I paid it recently.
ReplyDeleteLily Cate- My library emails when I must return a book. Oh I do so love my online access. I also request books that there is a long list for and then it is like a surprise when the email comes to say a book awaits. Thanks for the dissenting opinion on Graveyard. There are a lot of lovers out there.
J- Hi, again! Thank you!
J- A dissent to the dissent!
Sharon- I KNOW! I am constantly funneling my money into the library. I figure it is kind of a win win. You know, they get the money and I don't have to find shelves for all those books.
T--I'm actually a little afraid right now to check and see what my fine is. I let my son use my library card, and months later, we found some books kicking around... But maybe today I'll brave the fine. I haven't read the Graveyard book, but it's on my list!
ReplyDeleteI agree that it's good to *give* to the library!
HK- At my library the fine is something like five cents a day per overdue book. They must cap it somewhere. I know the librarians don't like it when I say I don't mind paying fines to the library. But I still don't mind. I think the librarians are more afraid of me than I am of them.
ReplyDeleteNo seriously, they are so nice but very shy. So they might be afraid of me.
I don't feel it's necessary to tell you that the BFF works at the library, so I get my books for a month and never have fines.
ReplyDeleteNope. Not need-to-know info at all.
Due dates are for the uncreative.
ReplyDeletePMM-Ha! Made me laugh. And now I am wondering.
ReplyDeleteSame here. I did not finish reading the Graveyard. Excellent, poetic prose that led me from paragraph to the next. But ultimately, I did not care enough about the characters to keep reading. The chapters felt episodic. It never bothered me that I didn't find out if the boy was safe. I'm sure I would have enjoyed the ending...I just stopped reading.
ReplyDeleteLaura- Sorry for the delayed response. I have been so busy this weekend. I probably would have read it to the end if I had had the time, but I think I was feeling very much as you described. Thanks for the comment.
