Let's hang out!

Read this post about how to conduct writers' hangouts in Google+. Seems clear that I should form a TPR circle and we should try this out. There has been lots of talk about this in our TPR chats. We explore ways in which we could possibly do a Brady Bunch style chat (remember the lead in to the show? The other famous old-era example would be Hollywood Squares). Skype requires money for group calls and gchat only allows one person at a time.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Have you tried Google+? What do you think of it so far? And writing circles? Are they gonna be all the rage?

Watch this hangout video.

Makes you wanna do it doesn't it?

In the meantime, I am installing a guestbook over at TPR. I encourage you to sign in if you have ever visited or participated in TPR. As always click through that door to see what you find on the other side. Hopefully I will have the book all ready for you! I will publish links in The Practice Room to make it  easy to keep up with fellow practice room writers. (Idea thanks to the great Heather Kelly.)

We had our first Google+ Hangout at TPR on August 3rd at 2 pm EST. Click through to see how it went.

  1. Hmmmm... I was thinking of not joining this one - I just can't keep up with blogging (and the friendships built), Twitter (and the friendships built) and facebook (and the friendships built - are you noticing a trend?) AND add a new social networking thingamajiggy! I'll never have time for writing or family!

    But this does seem cool!

  2. (how sad that I didn't say I'd never have time for IRL friends. hahaha. WHAT IRL FRIENDS? There's no time for those as it is!)

  3. Marisa, Yeah, I know what you mean! But... I hate Facebook -- so I at least don't have that! And you'll come over to the dark side, once there are Brady Bunch chats!

  4. I shall come ONLY for the Brady Bunch chats :D That does sound pretty awesome and I would LOVE to chat with you all face to face!

I heard that Google+ is more private than facebook and twitter, which is nice. Just hard, because EVERYONE in my life is on facebook and twitter!

  5. I love the idea behind the G+ hangouts, but I feel like I would hog all the camera time.

  9. I think that looks super cool! Can't wait to see the evolution of TPR. How old school the chat box may become...

  10. I know I said I would look into group skyping, but you're' right. It's not free.

I think this looks awesome. I wasn't planning to jump on the Google+ bandwagon just yet -- but for this, I would! Count me in!

  11. oceangirl: are you oceangirl over there? and do you like it like Facebook?

Anita: sure thing! I will try. I think more of us have to join up to make it work. But the number is growing...

Heather: it looks fun! Would we all be up to having the camera on us the whole time? And what of our different manuscript playlists! They may clash or harsh my flow or something...

Dianne: Yay! I also put you on the Sched for tomorrow night. I think that is right, right???

  14. Hello!

I have to admit that I took a break from blogging and apparently all things Internet and am just now learning about Google+. I don't have a clue what it's all about.

I'm so glad you're still doing TPR.

  15. Patty, good to see you! I have not been so consistent on the blog myself. And there was a wave of Google+ for me and now it has ebbed. Doesn't mean I am not interested. I see a ton of potential but it requires attention. And who has that??? Hope all is well with you. Would love to see you in TPR sometime but I know my hours are never California friendly. Maybe an afternoon would work sometime? On a rainy day perhaps. :)

  16. Hi Tina,

I love the concept of the group chat, but like Marisa and many of you, I'm having a hard time keeping up with blogging and now Twitter. Hardly find time for Facebook anymore, so I didn't plan on joining Google+ yet. The group chat sounds good, but I'm not sure how it would work. You mentioned the different manuscript playlists and I'm not sure what you mean. I have a million questions about this. I should probably email you!

  17. Lynn, you have to go sign in the guest book at TPR - the hangout was completely lovely and I love that it was your first time writing with us! Thanks for joining and I would love for you to share your contact info over there so other TPR folks could get a hold of you if they wanted.

Everybody - Here is the link to the recap, if you want to read how our first ever Hangout went. http://tinalaurellee2.blogspot.com/2011/08/hangout-beginning-at-2-pm-est.html
