Hi Tina: great share! My latest "reuse what I have" project was to put stair railings on stairs leading to the deck. A friend, and fellow OT, visited a couple of weeks ago. She is still working, and does a lot of home safety assessments. She quickly pointed out the lack of railings on those deck stairs (there are 2 of them). Prior to having a front porch added to my home, there had been a serviceable, tiny 4' x 5' landing, with stairs and 2 railings. It had been hauled off to the edge of the woods... becoming a "viewing platform" for the woods and creek beyond it. A 13 y.o. neighbor boy I've hired to help me at times removed one of the railings and we retro-fitted it onto the deck stairs. So far I hate it! While the patina of the deck and new railings match (BOTH VERY OLD, but solid wood), it is clumsy, doesn't really span the whole length of the stairs (bad safety wise), and it just looks awkward. So... I will renovate it in a way that will be both safe and pleasing - at least that is my hope. It probably would have been faster to make new stairs and a railing.... but I still feel determined to use the "old parts" and make something new with them. We'll see how it goes. Best of luck in your well loved home renovations! Mary Lou
Hi Mary Lou, thanks for commenting! I love that reusing of “old parts” and agreed, probably it takes more time. Here’s to making the old new again. And figuring out where to begin🤪 for me anyway. Your lovely place never seems to be lacking your attention and feels so well cared for ❤️
Hi Tina! I’m just catching up on your posts today. You know the crazy of my house. But I guess that I continue to update it—painting, new fixtures, tiles, etc—mostly for the satisfaction (dopamine?) of a fresh, finished task. And life is short. So I want to make the place now as enjoyable as i can.
Thanks so much for reading and commenting! I know and love your crazy house. There was a time when I have tried to channel you when I work around the house. Time for the return of Beaver Medicine🦫🦫🦫(now I know the origin story!)
