Walks Along A River
An errand this past week took us to Northeast Minneapolis so we took a walk down the river through North Mississippi Regional Park. The views were beautiful and one of the things that made me very curious was the Minneapolis Water Works building which you could see across the way. If you are curious too, you could learn more about how the water gets to our taps here in Minneapolis and else where. Thank you water infrastructure and a reminder that the Earth that still provides.
In route we encountered the Mississippi Park Connection’s Paddle Share program that allows you to begin upriver and paddle downriver to return the kayak at a station. There are various routes and ways to find a guided tour if you are new to it. You are also able to connect to Minneapolis Bicycle share to get back to your car. The season is closed for now and usually opens Memorial Day, but who knows with the warm weather? They may consider opening early. It’s very cool that such river access exists. Popcorn and cake
An overzealous oil application when making pop corn sent me down the popcorn making rabbit hole. Of course Serious Eats offers a in depth article with comparisons to various popcorn making methods. Mine involves copious amounts of oil with nutritional yeast and salt, no butter. The article says that there are two types of popcorn eaters, the ones who prefer light and airy or the rich and crunchy. I am of the latter. But I can see the point of the other, although I am not about to buy the equipment required for such popcorn. Just a regular pot for me. What about you?
Also Everyday Cake.
Other Consolations
Here is what to do if you can’t sleep from Lion’s Roar.
And Beyoncé’s foray into country music on PBS Newshour, yay!
All this and the meditations of Jeff Warren on the 10% Happier App have offered some consolation to me this week. And working through the book pictured below on grief with some of Karlene’s loved ones.
I’d love to hear what consoles you.
Thank you for reading.
